Join us for Shape Up For A Cure!

October 21, 2023

In 2004, my mom faced late-stage breast cancer. Instead of giving up when she was given the news, she transformed her health through nutrition, exercise, and education. Despite her own battle with the disease, she was determined to make a positive change. This had a tremendous impact on my sisters and I. Her journey inspired me to start my own path towards wellness and thus, PowerPlaySF was born.

My mom also initiated several fundraisers and educational initiatives in Ghana and inspired me to do the same. Throughout the years, with the incredible support of the community around me, and the foundation of PowerPlaySF, I've witnessed the transformation of many women. We've also found ways to fundraise for breast cancer awareness and support those affected by this disease.

In August 2022 my mama passed away but her legacy continues through myself and all the lives she influenced.

This year, we invite everyone on our journey to participate in our fundraising efforts to aid breast cancer education and awareness efforts in Ghana through Go Pearl House. The Pearl House protects, educates, and disciples at-risk young women in underserved communities around the world. With a vision to empower young women to change their families, their communities, and their nation.

Thank you for your contributions!

10.21.23 EVENT DETAILS

DID YOU KNOW?

ONE in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime.

Every 12 minutes in the U.S., breast cancer takes a life.

The impressive amount of social awareness that this cause has is no accident; it is the result of decades of committed activism beginning in the 1970s, and was driven in large part by the spirit of the women’s liberation movement. Until this point in time, breast cancer was an “unspeakable” condition that women experienced privately and silently, with shame rather than social support.

It took the acts of individual women speaking out about cancer, as well as feminist organizing that targeted the relationship between female patients and the male-dominated medical establishment, for the issue to go public and become less stigmatized.
